Satu - Fairy Tale

Makrotex-haasteena on tällä viikolla SATU. Kuvasin alkuvuodesta julkaistua kirjaa Pohjoismaiset jumalolennot - eräänlaisia satujahan nämäkin ovat.

The Makrotex Challenge of the week is FAIRY TALE. I took a few photos from my book Nordic Pagan Gods - these are a kind of fairy tales as well.

Thor - god of thunder; Ukkosenjumala Tor

Pohjoisen muinaiset pakanajumalat elävät myös meidän nykypäivän ihmisten elämässä - vaikkapa viikonpäivissä:
  • Tiistai, tisdag, tirsdag on saanut nimensä jumalalta nimeltä Tyr
  • Keskiviikko, onsdag, Odens dag ylijumala Odinilta
  • Torstai, torsdag Odinin pojalta, ukkosenjumala Torilta
  • Islantilaisen Arnaldur Indridasonin dekkareissa vilahtelevat niinikään vankat uskomukset islantilaisten piilokansaan, huddufolkiin.

The frightening weapon of Thor - Torin pelottava nuija

The ancient Nordic pagan gods live still today, especially in the names of weekdays:
  • Tuesday - tiistai, tirsdag, tisdag comes from a god called Tyr
  • Wednesday - keskiviikko, onstag, Odens dag from the supreme god Odin
  • Thursday - torstai, torsdag from Odin's son Thor which is  god of thunder
  • In the detective stories of Arnaldur Indridason, an Icelandic writer, there are many hints to huddufolk - hidden people.

The ancient pagan gods are very energetic, always hustling something. They are in constant war against each other but the magical realism is hilarious: those mutilated and slaughtered to dead while fighting shall return to live - safe and sound! - in the evening and continue their feasts and drinking and playing.

Gartenglück

The summer came on Friday - only two days make a miracle.
Everything is growing so fast, the birches have leaves, the maples are in bloom...
If this is not happiness, what is?

My frog beside the pond sings salute to the summer!

Yellow is not my favourite color, don't know why I have so many yellow tulips!

Peonies in good growth!
Omphaloides verna

Corylus avellana 'Fuscorubra'

Drymocallis rupestris

My first modest terrace bouquet of this year!

I have spent hours in the garden just enjoying the wonderful weather!

Watching a bit ATP tennis from Rome where Andy Murray played
so poorly and was defeated by Fabio Fognini!
In the final Novac Djokovic was not at his best either
and was defeated by the amazing & young Alexander Zverev from Germany!

This book La carne - Flesh by Rosa Montero was good summer reading,
so far available only in Spanish & Italian.

Wishing you too happy moments in the garden!

Sunny Tulipa tarda

Tulipa tarda on matala ja pienikukainen ns. kasvitieteellinen tulppaani.
Näitä on levinnyt sinne tänne ja poimin muutaman pieneen maljakkoon.

I picked a few Tulipa tardas into a tiny vase.
Not much talking, a busy week in the garden!

Sunny weekend! - Aurinkoista viikonloppua!

Floral Bliss #21

We have had a bit warmer, but the spring is a month late. So not much bliss to show you.
Therefore I start with a lilac mosaic from last May,
to be followed with some modest photos of yesterday.

Lilium martagon starting to grow

Old wheels aside my pond...

We don't have many huge & old trees in Finland.
But this oak called The Oak of Paavola is huge and well-known.
It is said to be 400-500 years old and has won the title of the most beautiful tree in Finland.
The photo was taken on Sunday, no leaves yet. Lohja, Southern Finland.
